Monica Wright and the Minnesota Lynx won the 2013 WNBA championship.
Back in July, Oklahoma City Thunder superstar Kevin Durant and WNBA guard Monica Wright got engaged. On Thursday, Wright and the Minnesota Lynx won the 2013 WNBA championship.
This is where some might be compelled to point out that the three-time NBA scoring champion’s fiancée has more championship rings than he does.
Durant is way ahead of those people:
@pdgraham30 I love it!!! She’s the better player anyway

The Oklahoman‘s Darnell Mayberry passed along these additional quotes from Durant about Wright winning her first WNBA title:
KD on fiance Monica Wright’s WNBA title: “I was proud of how she helped her team win a championship. It was kind of tears of joy.”

Durant on Wright: “I’m glad she’s my future wife. She’s got more championships than I do.”

A household featuring two professional basketball players is bound to get competitive, especially given how obsessive most NBA fans are about championship rings. When LeBron James proposed to his now-wife Savannah Brinson, he had not yet won his first NBA championship (the Heat beat Durant’s Thunder in 2012), and the tired “LeBron’s girlfriend has more rings than he does” jokes were unavoidable.
Counting her engagement ring and her brand-new WNBA championship ring, Durant now has to win two NBA championships to catch up.
As if he needed any more motivation to win a title, now he has it.
